THE WORLD TOUR RACE IS BACK ON

The 2008 IBA World Tour has officially kicked off in Hawaii. Different from previous years where Pipeline ended the tour, from now on, Pipe takes centre stage and starts the tour. For a lot of the world pro's it mean heading to Hawaii for a second time in as many months. Max Arent-Highfeld & Benny Player stuck it out early in the season, and ben went back to open up his 2008 campaign for a 3rd world title. Good luck to the man. Winny has been full of responsibility and taking care of his beautiful wife and child, but he will be back to some cracking form in no time. – Njoy

THORPE WALUEW ON THE MOVE-MENT

Usually just regular news for the rest of the NMD team, but young Thorpe Waluew scored a sweet double page spread in the latest Movement Mag, which have flipped their format over so it looks more like a mega Double page spread. taken by his brother, the team are setting them selves up for Gold Coast domination. – Njoy

PLAYER TAKES HIS SECOND

Mr Ben Player has taken out his second World Title in the Canary Islands of the coast of Europe. In the end it was a tight one, with results in the last event being the deciding factor between two competitors. Ben went on to place 2nd in the comp, easily securing his second world title.

Whats next, we can only guess. Maybe the man will be satisfied with two world titles, but more than likely its just going to fire him up more and he is going to push for his 3rd. – Njoy

BACK TO BACK FOR BEEPS

Following on from his success at the Human Shark Island event, Ben Player has made it back to back victories by taking out the next stop on the IBA World Tour, the Science Arica Chilean Challenge.

Ben surfed strongly in his heats but had to overcome a determined Dave Hubbard (USA/ Hawaii) in order to progress to the final. Next up was Portugal’s Manuel Centeno who tried hard to stop Ben’s dream run, but it was not to be with Ben crowned the event winner and now taking a dominant lead on in the tour ratings. Next stop is Spain, then on to Portugal and the US$30,000 Sintra Pro.

BP WINS HUMAN SHARK ISLAND
CHALLENGE

Strangely, Ben Player’s victory at the 2007 Human Shark Island Challenge was his first ever win of a World Tour event. The 2005 World Champion had made several podium finishes, but had never claimed the top prize, that was until the sun set on this year’s SIC in Cronulla.

After progressing through the early rounds in trailing conditions, things heated up on finals day with clean 4-5 foot conditions. The final saw Ben up against 10 time World Champ Mike Stewart (USA/ Hawaii), 2006 World Champ Jeff Hubbard (USA/ Hawaii) and competition dark horse Mark McCarthy (Sth Africa). Ben had saved his best for last and picked off the biggest sets, making several long barrels and boosting on the outside section to take this years Human Shark Island Challenge.
